TSUNAMI EARTHQUAKE APPEAL
As you may well have seen on TV or in the papers, more than 150,000 people have died or are missing due to the Tsunami Earthquake on Boxing Day 2004. Estimates indicate that 2 million people could be subjected to poverty from the after effects of the Tsunami.
Money has been donated from all over the world, however aid is still desperately needed and you could help. All donations will help clothe, feed and provide shelter to the victims of this terrible disaster. Medicine and medical supplies are urgently required to treat the injured, with fresh water and water purification tablets needed to prevent the spread of disease.
In the long term a huge amount of money will be needed to rebuild homes, roads and other basic infrastructure, but as a certain supermarket advertises "every little helps". Indonesia has estimated that it will take around 4 years to rebuild the Northern city of Banda Aceh alone.
Please help if you are able - below are some fundraising ideas from the DEC,
plus a few of our own. If you wish to do some of the ideas below, you will possibly need to ask a teacher/parent/guardian to help, for example if you want to hold a raffle, you will need a special licence.
To send donations, a cheque will be required as notes and coins cannot be accepted.
