Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is breast cancer awareness month!

During October various organisations are raising awareness of this disease and raising funds to research into it and FunkeeMunkee
didn’t want you to miss out!

One in nine women will develop breast cancer at some time in their lives and each year about 300 men are diagnosed with the disease.

The good news is that more people than ever before are surviving breast cancer particularly if they find it in their bodies in the early stages of the disease. The treatments people are given are always improving too.

In Bedford...

Bedford Borough Council have decided that for the entire month
of October they are lighting up the bridge in the town centre pink (instead of it’s usual blue) to make people think about breast cancer awareness.

Pink is the colour that has been associated with breast cancer campaigns – you may have seen the pink ribbon that people can buy.

So, how can you help?

Well, many high street stores are selling things to raise money for the campaign e.g. Next, George at ASDA and Boots. Some of these items
may just what you’re looking for (particularly if you like the colour pink!!) and the money goes to a very good cause!!

You could also go on-line to breastcancercare.org.uk to find out
fundraising ideas and do a sponsored event - or anything!!

Click on the button to help donate
a free mammogram a day to an underprivileged woman...
Click on the logo left to visit the site and press the button for free.
Or how about joining the Relay for Life next year?

The event is in aid of Cancer Research and will be held over 24 hours. You can enter a team with your friends (you will need a chaperone if you are under 18), or get your family involved and make one big team. Click on the logo above to find out more and how to register.

Do your parents drink wine?

This may sound like we’re completely changing the subject but how much someone drinks can influence their chances of developing breast cancer. So, alcohol services for the community has created a special limited edition of the free fridge magnet (pictured) showing the units of alcohol in wine.

But don’t worry – if one or both your parents drink alcohol that doesn’t mean they’re definitely going to develop breast cancer.

Just e-mail through to us here and we’ll pop a fridge magnet in the post to you (one per household).

So, think pink this month
and get raising awareness and maybe funds, too.

A massive thank you to Cancer Research UK for
