PEOPLE CLEARING LITTER is a website where you’ll see how a small amount of your time picking up litter in your locality, combined with similar actions by thousands of others around the country, can start to make a visible difference to our environment.

Together, we have immense power. And it needn’t take much extra time at all. We all know several spots we pass regularly, on foot or in a car, where five or ten minutes’ work filling a bag every now and then would make a big difference.

So, click here to register your support, report back on what you’re doing, and become part of the litter solution.

 Friends of the Earth says:

Climate change is the most serious  threat facing humanity. The  Government must face up to the  urgency and scale of the problem.

The Government has set long-term  targets for cutting climate change  emissions, but our emissions have  risen since 1997.

Friends of the Earth wants annual  targets to concentrate minds in  Government - targets for the year  2050 are just too far off for Ministers  to make action a priority.

SOME OF TV's LEADING LIFETYLE EXPERTS SHOW US SOME SIMPLE STEPS THAT YOU CAN TAKE TO SAVE THE PLANET. EVERY SO OFTEN WE'LL GIVE YOU 2 EASY WAYS THAT YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE...

TEXTILES One million tons of textiles go to landfill each year whilst we're filling our wardrobes at an increasing pace, thanks to the notion of "disposable fashion". The environmental impact of clothes shopping is huge: cotton isn't the world's largest crop, but uses 25 percent of the world's agrochemicals; man-made fabrics release chemicals such as dioxins; and azo dyes poison aquatic systems. So reduce your turnover and buy quality clothes instead, and make them last.

KETTLES Only boil as many cups of water as you're actually going to use. Measure out what you need, or invest in an eco kettle (www.kettle.com) that lets you see choose how many cups to boil each time, even when it's full.
